Perhaps she hadn't seen Roy in a month, but if anyone thought that anything short of major revolution - or Lianna needing her - would keep Aly from celebrating Roy's birthday with him. Especially since if she didn't show up, he'd probably try to pretend that it hadn't happened and he was still 29.

No one was falling for that anymore. They were just too polite to say anything.

Aly's first indication that something was wrong came when she realised it was a Sunday afternoon in Amestris. Odd, that - she was pretty certain it should have been a weekday. The day change didn't change where she found him of course, and Aly didn't bother to knock as she made her way into the General's office. "Seriously? We've had a conversation about working on Sunday at least once before, right?" she said, her tone acerbic though her lips were trying hard to smile.

One would have to forgive Aly if she appeared especially smug today as she planned her lesson for tomorrow. She'd spotted the majority of her students dancing, and even if it was a homework assignment, most of them looked like they were having fun. She was perfectly okay with being smug.

She leaned back in her chair, flipping a coin between and around her fingers as she thought about the next five or so classes. It was times like this that she missed Jamie Madrox. She wouldn't mind another in class demonstration of revolutions.

Aly was in her office again to meet with those visitors who hadn't been by the day before. Lianna had refused to come again, citing terminal boredom and insisting she was going exploring. There probably wasn't much more trouble she could get into in Fandom than in Rajmuat. Aly hoped at least.

She was totally going to spend the day asking Trick where Lianna was now unless there were conversations to distract her. Or locks to pick - locks to pick were a good distraction. Which resulted in the mass of locks scattered across her files, all in various stages of being opened.

[OOC: Open office, open door]

Her two worlds had crashed together last night when an over-excited Lianna had shown up at her apartment thrilled to be spending the weekend with her mom. Aly was still bemused about it, but in a relaxed, comfortable way that she had never expected. Her daughter in Fandom had always seemed an impossibility, but here she was, picking the locks Aly kept in her office with a speed that was going to rival her mother's in another few years.

Aly's attention had to be on her notes about her students even if her eyes kept drifting over to the little girl (the one would only take another few minutes before she was so bored that she ran off to explore) in the corner. The door, however, was open, and Aly even had a thermos of coffee to share if any visitors looked like they needed a pick-me-up.

If being back on the island was strange, ending up in this apartment was even stranger. Aly didn't mind at all really. She'd gotten used to the extra space of her rooms at the palace, and when Lianna came to visit, the spare room would be useful.

For now, she was simply unpacking her packs of weapons and watching Dee and Ow tumble through the apartment, exploring like the kittens they no longer were. Everything else was still in boxes, but the weapons were checked first always and set away carefully. She'd need to decide where they all went soon, but for now, just knowing they'd survived intact and unscratched the journey was enough.

Aly paused, checking over one of the knives her da had given her years ago. Seriously, teaching at Fandom again. She couldn't deny she'd missed the students and their usually amusing outlook on things, but she'd never actually expected it would happen. With a snort of amusement at herself, she set down the knife and reached for the next. If her life only contained what she expected would happen, it would be very boring indeed.

[OOC: omg back on Fandom eee! Open post for neighbors or anyone.]

As if he'd known that Aly was getting close to being completely overloaded with questions and confusion and thoughts, Nawat took himself off to investigate the murder of crows flocking in the Preserve.

She couldn't help but smile at his innate tact, something she'd been torn between loving and being incredibly frustrated about when he was alive. Everything he'd been saying seemed like something she only hoped he might believe, and she needed time to work it out into something that made sense. She found herself walking through town, marking the places she'd known when she'd lived on the island until she got a coffee from the Perk and walked out to the beach again. Anyone who wanted to would find her there.
One very long preplayCollapse )

Nawat had been on the island for almost a day and a half, and while they'd spent the entire time together, they hadn't talked about much beyond the island, the flockings of crows, and small bits of home - the men and women they'd both served with, Dove, the implications of the lack of rebellion in the past few years.

It was nice just to be in his company, sometimes moving, sometimes not, but always having that innate understanding that comes from knowing someone very, very well. It was almost too bad that eventually they'd have to talk. If only because Aly knew that if she let this amazing and odd opportunity go by without apologising to him, she'd regret it for the rest of her life.

The Copper Isles were surrounded by water - thus the name, yes - but there was something about Fandom's beach that Aly always had a soft spot for and whenever she visited the island, she found her way to the water eventually to sit on the beach and let herself think about whatever came to mind. The view and the water wasn't exactly the same as most of the time she'd been on the island - the moving about saw to that, but it was still the same beach, and in some ways, that was what mattered.

And there was a visitor. Obviously.Collapse )

Aly had only been back in the Copper Isles for about three weeks , but she was beyond bored.  Beyond bored and missing Roy already.  She shouldn't be bored.  It was summer, and ships were going in and out of Copper Isles every day bringing new gossip and news and possible threats.  But even hunting down Uncle George's latest attempts to plant a Tortall spy in her city wasn't nearly as interesting as it usually was.

She'd never regret being in the Copper Isles, but in an odd way, she was homesick.  She'd had a lot of countries in her life - Tortall and the Isles of course.  And then in a way, the US during her time at Fandom, but now it seemed like Amestris and its people had wormed its way into her heart as well, and as much as she loved her Queen and islands, she missed Amestris' odd weather and ugly, blocky buildings.

So after a discussion with Dove that had included words like 'stop being an idiot' and 'no, seriously, you're a moron,' Aly found herself headed back to Amestris for a short visit.  She went through the portal in disguise, wanting to get to Central without Roy's informants passing the word on.  Once in Central, she had a few errands to run before tracking Roy down, but she finally found him sitting outside a coffee shop and reading a paper.

With a smirk, she sat down across from him, waiting for him to look up.
